In some cases, IP testing is optional. However, the IP rating of the product is generally requested from the manufacturers. For example, outdoor lighting equipment should have an IP rating against moisture. Input protection classes (IP levels) are used to define the type and degree of input protection that a particular item has. These ratings are made in two ways: the first for foreign bodies and dust (ie for solids), the second for liquids.
