Working Environment Noise Measurements

The measurement of noise levels in the workplace and the noise risks of employees are the most important part of hearing protection and noise control programs in the workplace. Thanks to these measurements, noise problems are solved, the health of the employees affected by noise is protected and a comfortable working environment is provided.

Working Environment Noise Measurements

In order to determine noise exposures in terms of occupational hygiene, the sound pressure level is generally measured. Technological devices and techniques are used in these measurements. Which devices and techniques should be used depends on the noise level in the working environment. However, it should first be determined whether there is a noise problem.

The first step in identifying noise problems in the work environment is to determine if noise is a potential problem. Indicators of a potentially hazardous noise level can be listed as follows: noise is higher than heavy city traffic, employees must raise their voices to speak to someone within a meter away, employees must raise their voices to a higher level for others to hear the sound of their radio or television, or After working for several years, employees find it difficult to communicate in crowded environments with many voices. Data obtained in measurements similar to those mentioned are very useful in assessing the potential noise problem.

When planning noise measurements, the purpose of the measurement (compliance with legal regulations, prevention of hearing loss, noise control or community disturbance), noise sources and time intervals in which sources operate, whether the sound is continuous, variable, intermittent or impulsive, and the locations of the exposed persons must be considered. The next step is to determine the level of exposure to personal noise. Noise dosimetry is used if the noise level changes during the day or if workers are highly mobile.

The following are a few standards that are taken into account in the noise measurement of working environments in laboratories:

  • TS EN ISO 9612 Acoustics - Determination of exposure to noise in the working environment - Engineering method

  • TS 2607 ISO 1999 Acoustics - Determination of exposure to workplace noise and estimation of hearing loss caused by this noise

Our company also provides working environment noise measurement services within the scope of other testing services. Thanks to these services, enterprises are able to produce more efficient, high performance and quality products in a safe, fast and uninterrupted manner.
Work environment noise measurement services provided by other test services are only one of the services provided by our organization in this respect. Many other testing services are also available.
