Fumigation Certification

Fumigation is the process of destroying living organisms that can be found on foodstuffs. The fumigation process helps get rid of pests. Insects are one of the largest disease environments, so in international shipping, emphasis is placed on preventing the spread of diseases. Essentially, international import and export regulations mandate the fumigation process. First of all, it is aimed to reduce the risk of spreading quarantine pests in international trade.

Fumigation Certification

Fumigation is used not only in international transportation, but also in the preparation of packaging for the storage of various consumer products. Repeated use of the same packaging makes them susceptible to pest attacks. In this case, all kinds of crates, pallets, boxes, boxes with wooden partitions and floors, and similar places need to be cleaned periodically. In international transportation, the fumigation process of wood is the basic condition for the product to pass through the customs and accept it for transportation.

Goods that have not been subjected to fumigation are never brought into the country that requires this process. In this respect, pesticides are applied against any pests, bacteria or various microorganisms that may come from outside, in accordance with the shipping conditions and in a way that the product is not damaged during transportation by sea, road or air. In this way, it is ensured that the products are transferred safely and that they are not damaged during transportation.

In short, fumigation is a method of using a lethal gas to destroy pests in a confined space. Container fumigation is the treatment of a product or the container itself to eliminate the risk of pests or diseases entering and leaving the country.

It is important that products exported to international markets meet global quality standards and that the final products received by customers are not damaged. Once a shipment is packaged and ready for shipping, there is always the possibility of infestation by pest infections and viruses or termites. To ensure that the exported cargo is safe and of good quality, exporters need to ensure that they take the necessary steps for disinfection.

Commonly used chemicals to carry out the fumigation process are methyl bromide and phosphine. Fumigation is generally a fast and effective process and has no adverse effects on the disinfected article.

A fumigation certificate is an official document confirming that shipping containers have been chemically disinfected. During export, products are usually stored in wooden boxes, which must be sprayed before transport to avoid the risk of pest infestation. Our organization is authorized to supervise the shipment processes and issue a fumigation certificate confirming that the exported products are subject to fumigation.

There are two main methods in the fumigation process, which is carried out before the products are shipped:

  • Full container loading method: In this method, the fumigant is passed into the container, left for a while and then ventilated. After that, the doors are sealed and the shipment is ready for shipping.
  • Loose container loading method: This method is used for products that do not fill the entire container. In this method, fumigation is done under a gas-tight cover. The shipment is kept under an airtight cover for a while, and then the environment is ventilated to disperse the fumigants.

After the fumigation process is successfully completed, a fumigation certificate is issued. This certification work mainly complies with the standards developed by the International Plant Protection Union (IPPC). These standards include international measures applied to wooden packaging materials to control the risk of pest infestation associated with wooden pallets. For example, the ISPM 15 standard describes the wooden packaging method that guarantees the elimination of all potentially harmful organisms.

A fumigation certificate mainly contains the following information:

  • Certificate ID
  • Issuer's information
  • Description, number and details of the cargo
  • Name of fumigant used
  • Purpose of treatment
  • Exporter's address
  • Importer's address
  • Overarching details
  • The port of destination of the cargo

Fumigation services certification is among the numerous test, measurement, analysis, evaluation and certification services provided to businesses by our organization.

CERTIFICATION PROCESS

First Evaluation

First, it is determined whether the organization meets the mandatory requirements of the standard and whether to proceed to the next stage.

CERTIFICATION PROCESS

Preparation of Documents

It is checked whether necessary procedures and audits have been developed and your institution's readiness for evaluation is reviewed.

CERTIFICATION PROCESS

Issue of Document

The findings that arise in the first two stages are evaluated and after all corrective actions are reviewed, document preparation is started.
