In the European Union countries, directive 2009 / 125 / EC has been issued within the framework of eco-design requirements for energy related products. This directive aims to harmonize national laws in member countries and to prevent trade barriers and unfair competition. This regulation ensures that the scope extends to all energy-related products and that the eco-design requirements for all energy-related products are harmonized at the Member States level.

Energy-related products make up a large portion of natural resources and energy consumption. It also has other significant environmental impacts. In order to achieve sustainable development, it is necessary to continuously improve the environmental impact of these products, in particular to identify the sources of these negative impacts and prevent pollution.

Many energy related products have significant potential to reduce environmental impacts and save energy with a better design. In addition to products that use, produce, transfer, or measure energy, many energy-related products, including products used in construction, can make significant contributions to energy savings.

Eco-design of products is a very important factor in determining and maintaining energy policies. Designed to optimize the environmental performance of products, these products are important for manufacturers, consumers and society as a whole, maintaining a functional quality and taking a preventive approach.

Increasing energy efficiency also contributes greatly to the achievement of greenhouse gas emission targets. Electricity demand in energy use is the fastest growing category, and this trend will continue to grow in the coming years.

In our country, the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology has issued a Regulation on Environmentally Friendly Design of Energy Related Products. This legal regulation is known as Eco-Design or eco-design.

ECO-Design (EKO-Design) tests carried out by authorized institutions are based on domestic and foreign standards.
