Water quality is an important tool to protect public health, support the economy and build a rich ecosystem. Clean waters are the main supporters of ecological processes that ensure that rivers are healthy, fish populations are strong, vegetation is alive, wetlands are productive and bird life is continuous.

Apart from these, drinking and using water should be of suitable quality for human life. In this regard, a series of legal regulations have been adopted to better manage water quality and standards have been developed by domestic and foreign organizations.

Water is essential for human life and environmental health. As a valuable natural resource, water consists of seas, rivers, lakes and groundwater environments extending to coastal and inland areas. There are two interrelated dimensions in determining the properties of water: quantity and quality.

Water quality generally means physical, chemical, biological and aesthetic (ie appearance and odor) properties. A healthy environment is an environment in which water quality is rich and supports various living communities and protects human health.

The quality of water in a body of water affects the use of water as drinking water or potable water. In general, water resources are used by people for the following purposes: drinking water supply, recreation (swimming or boating), watering plants, industrial processes, transport, production of edible fish and crustaceans, protection of aquatic ecosystems, habitats and scientific studies.

Water resources have great environmental, social and economic value, and if water quality declines, it loses its value. Water quality is important not only for protecting people's health, but also for providing ecosystem habitats, irrigation of agricultural land, contributing to tourism, and fishing and mining activities.
