Parents constantly want to keep their children safe while playing. The best thing to do is to choose safe toys. By toy safety, it is meant to produce and ensure the safety of toys, especially for children, in compliance with established safety standards.

Toys contribute to child development. However, toys must be safe for children to play with. The Toy Safety Directive 2009 / 48 / EC has been published to ensure that toys marketed in European Union countries do not endanger the health of children.

This directive describes the safety criteria that must be met before toys are marketed within the European Union. Toys must also comply with other relevant directives.

The Toy Safety Directive mainly includes the following safety requirements:

• General risks: risks to the health and safety of children with other persons, such as parents and carers

• Specific risks: physical and mechanical, electrical, chemical, flammability, hygiene and radioactivity risks

In practice, stricter conditions have been introduced for chemicals. For example, the chemical element 19, which is called heavy elements, including mercury and cadmium, is not allowed to be used in toys outside the limits specified in the directive. Likewise, the use of 55 allergenic odors in toys is prohibited.

Furthermore, 11 odor can be used in toys provided that they are indicated on the label and that additional requirements are met. Likewise, chemicals that cause cancer, alter genetic information, harm fertility or harm an unborn child are not considered safe.

In our country, the Toy Safety Regulation has been published by the Ministry of Customs and Trade in 2016 based on the mentioned directive. This regulation describes the principles for the safety and free movement of toys.

Toy safety tests performed in advanced laboratories comply with the methods and standards published by domestic and foreign organizations.
